Hi, there! I’m Kallie Snyder, and I teach and play flute in and around Lexington, KY. I’m a native of Western Kentucky, but I became a Lexingtonian in May 2017 along with my husband, Christopher, and our two fluffy cats, Beena and Sulley.

In addition to teaching flute lessons, I’m also the music teacher at Ashland Elementary School, and I’m an online music instructor for Bluegrass Technical and Community College, teaching Introduction to Music and History of Rock and Roll!

I’m so grateful to be able to teach music of so many styles to so many ages - I love what I do!

Dr. Kallie Snyder is an active flutist, clinician, adjudicator, and music educator in Lexington, KY.  As a native of Muhlenberg County and a product of Western Kentucky University, she is passionate about helping young flutists in the Commonwealth develop as musicians, leaders, and community members.

Dr. Snyder is the owner and instructor of Snyder Flute Studio, a private music studio located in Lexington, and is also a flute clinician at several public schools across Central Kentucky. She currently serves on the board of the Flute Society of Kentucky as Vice President and has enjoyed performing, presenting, adjudicating, and conducting at the Kentucky Flute Festival for more than a decade. In addition to her regional service, Dr. Snyder has served as Publicity Officer for the Flute New Music Consortium, an organization dedicated to promoting new music for the flute, and she served as a 2018 Competition Coordinator and Scholarship Adjudicator for the Florida Flute Association.

Prior to her relocation to Lexington in May 2017, Dr. Snyder completed a Doctorate in Flute Performance with Specialized Studies in World Music from Florida State University in 2015. As a Teaching Assistant, she enjoyed working with a wide range of graduate and undergraduate flutists in applied lessons, studio classes, woodwind methods, and beginning baroque flute. A passion for innovative pedagogy combined with her participation in an international flute course in contemporary methods prompted her doctoral treatise “Wil Offermans: The Pedagogy of a Contemporary Flutist-Composer” (2015).  During the research process she was inspired to integrate extended flute techniques, interculturalism, improvisation, and body movement into her teaching as a means to both supplement and enhance her students’ classical music training.

After completing her terminal degree, Dr. Snyder served on the teaching faculty at Mason’s School of Music and Good Sam Arts in Tallahassee, FL where she taught music theory, piano, and flute in addition to her administrative roles as Office Manager (Mason’s) and Arts Program Coordinator/Camp Director (Good Sam). She also fulfilled the role of Education & Engagement Coordinator for the Tallahassee Flute Club.

In addition to her educational and administrative work, Dr. Snyder has performed frequently as a solo artist, chamber musician, and orchestral musician. Recent performance engagements include concerts with the Flute New Music Consortium at the Flute Society of Kentucky Festival (2018) and the Florida Flute Association Convention (2017), chamber music concerts at the International Festival of Conductors, Composers, and Collaborators (2017), a Florida opera tour of Aida (2016), Carmen (2017), and Turandot (2017) with the Teatro Lirico D’Europa, and guest artist recitals at Western Kentucky University and Middle Tennessee State University (2016).

Dr. Snyder holds degrees from Western Kentucky University (Music Ed), Middle Tennessee State University (MA, flute performance), and Florida State University (DM, flute performance & Certificate in World Music).  Her former teachers include Heidi Alvarez, Deanna Little, and Eva Amsler.
